Discussion

West Shore Jr./Sr. High School opened in 1957. The exterior second floor walkways are deteriorating, which is causing concrete spalling.  Significant work is needed to address the underlying corrosion and repair the walkways. The scope of work includes underside and top side repair of the second floor walkway and underside repair of the third floor roof deck on Buildings 1,2,3,4 and 9. Example photographs are attached.

Canaveral Construction Co., Inc. has submitted a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) in an amount not to exceed $878,897.45 for the West Shore Jr./Sr. High School concrete walkway repairs under their continuing contract for construction management services based on a design by TLC Engineering Solutions under their continuing contract for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering services. Administration and permitting costs are estimated at $20,000. Although this project was not programmed, the concrete spalling needs to be addressed. The project is eligible for sales surtax funding and will be reviewed with the Independent Citizens Oversight Committee at their October 18, 2023 meeting.  The project may also be funded through facility renewal capital.

Board approval is required for purchase orders over $50,000. The standard form of the agreement was used which does not require legal review.
