September 22, 2020 Rule Development Workshop

The Board will meet in a Rule Development Workshop.  This will be the public's first opportunity to make public comments regarding revisions to policy 8420.02 Emergency Policy Requiring Face Coverings.  In response to the COVID-10 pandemic, public attendance will be allowed on a first come, first served basis up to thirty (30) persons in addition to board members and staff.  Persons wishing to address the Board on this policy will be called upon at the appropriate portion of the meeting.

The School Board of Brevard County met for a Rule Development Workshop on Tuesday, September 22, 2020.  Notice of the meeting was advertised in the Thursday, September 3, 2020 and September 10, 2020 edition of The Eagle.  Affidavits of publication are available in the School Board office.

There was discussion about the use of face shields in section G.  The majority of the Board (Belford, McDougall and Susin) wanted the section to be re-written to the following:  Faculty and students are allowed to use a face shield, in lieu of a mask, when the instruction requires the ability to see the face of the student and/or the teacher or with an applicable exemption.  The policy will be brought back for Rule Development on October 6, 2020.
