The Florida Department of Education supports a complete and comprehensive education that includes dance, music, theatre, and visual arts for all Florida Students.  To help achieve this goal, the Florida Department of Education, in partnership with the Florida Alliance for Arts Education (FAAE), seeks to identify strong arts education programs in schools throughout Florida.  The Florida Arts Model Schools (FAMS) program recognizes schools that offer exemplary programs in any of the four arts disciplines and partners them with rural/under-served schools desiring to either enhance an emerging arts program or implement a new arts program.  Schools can apply for FAMS recognition in one or more arts areas.  The FAMS award is a three-year designation.

Eight schools statewide were recognized in September 2020, as Florida Arts Model Schools at the FAAE Leadership Summit.  Of these eight schools, five are in Brevard County. Four schools are receiving this recognition for exemplary music programs: Central Middle School, Kennedy Middle School, Quest Elementary School, and South Lake Elementary School.  Eau Gallie High School is receiving this recognition for an exemplary visual arts program.  We are very proud of this distinction and wish to recognize the efforts of the schools, their teachers, administrators, and community for their commitment to excellence.  To date, Brevard County has received more FAMS recognitions than any other county in Florida.
