Canaveral Construction Co., Inc. has submitted a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) in an amount not to exceed $259,110.14 under their continuing contract for construction management services. The design was prepared by TLC Engineering Solutions, Inc. under their continuing contract for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection (MEP) engineering services. Administration and permitting costs are estimated at $10,000.

The Independent Citizens Oversight Committee approved a recommended allocation of $200,000 for the Central Middle School elevator project from the 2014 sales surtax revenue over $198 million at their June 17, 2020 meeting. The balance will be funded through capital.

The scope of the project includes renovation of the elevator and reworking the elevator shaft to prevent water intrusion that is currently occuring.  On the second floor, the elevator is located where the covered walkway looks out into the central courtyard.  The elevator is adjacent to a custodial closet where the doorway is not under the covered walkway and rainwater flows through the custodial closet doorway into the elevator control room.  This proposal will move the custodial closet doorway to a covered side of the room and block off and seal the existing closet doorway.  The location of the new doorway is currently where the water fountains are located so those will be moved as part of this project.  At the same time, the elevator controller will be replaced.   

Board approval is required for purchase orders over $50,000.

Recommendation

Approve the total project construction budget in the amount of $269,110.14.  

Approve the allocation of $200,000 for the Central Middle School elevator project from the 2014 sales surtax revenue over $198 million.

Approve the Guaranteed Maximum Price submitted by Canaveral Construction Co., Inc. in an amount not to exceed $259,110.14 under their continuing contract for construction management services for the facility renewal project at Cambridge Elementary.
