Discussion The School Board awarded RFQ 22-270-Q-DR to Schenkel Shultz Architecture for a middle school prototype architectural design that can be used for the proposed middle school in the Viera area at the April 12, 2022 School Board meeting. Subsequently, the School Board approved the design services proposal submitted by Schenkel Shultz Architecture for design development, construction documents, bid phase support and construction administration in the amount of $2,314,100. The proposal included architectural services as well as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, civil and technology for all aspects of the middle school project. The design process is underway and has included coordination and collaboration with Brevard County Emergency Management and Brevard County Public Works. At the September 8, 2022 Board meeting, a partial waiver from the Enhanced Hurricane Protection Standards was approved; however, there are some design changes that Brevard County Emergency Management requested to further strengthen the gym building with mechanical system support. In addition, the site design includes a connection to Viera High School and an option for signalization at Veterans Way and Stadium Parkway. The proposal includes surveying, geotechnical and signalization design. The cost of construction for signalization will likely be a shared, but the apportionment has not been determined. Both of these scope components were not included in the original design proposal. At the District's request, Schenkel Shultz submitted a design change order for the signalization design and partial EHPA design in the amount of $113,250. Construction documents will be ready by January 2023. The construction manager has been selected and is working with the design team through the design process. The project is funded with educational impact fees. Administration and permitting costs have been previously budgeted. Board approval is required for purchase orders over $50,000. The standard form of the agreement has been used which does not require legal review.
