Discussion

The School Improvement Plans (SIP) being submitted for approval are from 104 schools including alternative sites, virtual, and charter schools. The names of schools submitting a SIP for approval appear on the attached list.

Schools completed an improvement plan based on 20-21 data using the state template. Each SIP includes a needs assessment based on data and action steps to improve student achievement. New for 21-22, House Bill 7011 (2021) established the Reading Achievement Initiative for Scholastic Excellence (RAISE) program in which 34 Brevard schools were designated for additional support. The criteria included elementary schools with students in grades kindergarten through five, where 50 percent or more of its students, in any grade level, score below a level 3 on the most recent statewide English Language Arts (ELA) assessment. These identified schools created an Area of Focus for Instructional Practice Specifically Relating to ELA and explicitly addressed strategies for improving reading. Schools noted with an asterisk on the attached list are RAISE schools.

These plans serve as the primary communication tool with parents, faculty, and community regarding each school's academic focus for the 21-22 school year.

Each SIP is reviewed by the School Advisory Council and then made available on each individual school's website once approved by the Board. Plans may be accessed through the district website using this link: http://sites.google.com/share.brevardschools.org/school-improvement/home
