The purpose of the proposed new policy is to ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, Florida State Board of Education Rules, Board policies, administrative rules, procedures, and guidelines. In addition, the proposed policy promote transparency and accountability.

This is a new policy created to address F.S. 1006.041 and HB 5101 regarding the Mental Health Assistance Program, contracting with community-based service providers, and processes for students in crisis.

  • This policy is being created to clarify the procedures regarding Mental Health Services, and other changes in compliance with applicable Florida law.
  • Particular areas of revision include the following: Some content related to Mental Health Services previously in po2410 (School Health Services) were moved here (2410.01) for a specific policy related to Mental Health Services.

This proposed new policy does encompass the suggested language from NEOLA.

Recommendation

Proposed Board Policy 2410.01 Mental Health Services is currently being proposed and will appear before the School Board on the dates indicated below:

  • Work Session – 10/24/23
  • Rule Development (Public Hearing) – 11/14/23
  • School Board Meeting Information – 11/14/23
  • School Board Meeting Approval – 12/12/23
