7. 2021-2022 School Calendar Amendment to Allow All District Offices and Schools to Close the Week of Thanksgiving

Superintendent Mullins advocated for amending this year's calendar to allow all District schools and offices to be closed the entire week of Thanksgiving.  He explained the challenging year schools across the country have had with the unprecedented era of a global pandemic. This unique possibility only exists because of the dedication of BPS staff and our families who faced a COVID-19 surge at the start of the school year and had to deal with a nationwide worker shortage, which has lead to extra work in the classroom for BPS staff. This is also made possible by the fact that we do not have any hurricane school days to make up.

Board members were supportive of the change.  It will be brought back at the November 16, 2021 meeting for an official vote.
