Discussion An electrical fire occurred at Coquina Elementary on the morning of February 17, 2023. Canaveral Construction Co., Inc. immediately responded to the site and engaged electrical, demolition and asbestos abatement subcontractors to provide emergency response as well as prepare the building for restoration. The Board previoiusly approved a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) submitted by Canaveral Construction Co., Inc. in amount not to exceed $83,761.81 for the initial emergency response and demolition phase of the project in an amount not to exceed under their continuing contract for construction management services Canaveral Construction Co., Inc. has submitted a Guaranteed Maximum Price proposal in amount not to exceed $782,199.81 for the reconstruction of Building 5 at Coquina Elementary School under their continuing contract for construction management services based on a design by HKS Architects, Inc. under their continuing contract for architectural services. Approximately 60% of the cost proposal is attributable to the fire. Administration and permitting costs have been previously budgeted. The renovation project is under design to include new ceiling tiles, ceiling grid, LED lighting, new cabinetry, partial flooring and window replacement, interior walls and paint. The project also includes new electrical circuits, new fire alarm, block infill, plumbing upgrades and data upgrades. The project will be funded through the facility renewal capital allocation. Staff is working with Risk Management to file an insurance claim. Board approval is required for purchase orders over $50,000. The standard form of the agreement has been used which does not require legal review.
