The purpose of the proposed revisions to the policy is to ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, Florida State Board of Education Rules, Board policies, administrative rules, procedures, and guidelines. In addition, the proposed revisions promote transparency and accountability.

Summary of Proposed Policy Revisions

• This policy is being revised to clarify the procedures regarding Tobacco Free Environment and other changes in compliance with applicable Florida law.
• Particular areas of revision include the following:  updating the title, adding definitions, clarifying the responsibilities of administrators, and disciplinary actions for both student and employee violations.
• These proposed revisions encompass the suggested language from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
• These proposed revisions encompass the suggested language from NEOLA.

Revisions to Board Policy 3215 Tobacco Free Environment will appear before the Board on the following dates:

• Work Session – 4/27/2021
• Rule Development Workshop – 5/11/2021
• School Board Meeting Information – 5/11/2021
• School Board Meeting Approval – 5/25/2021
• Effective Date – upon approval
