The purpose of the proposed revisions to the policy is to ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, Florida State Board of Education Rules, Board policies, administrative rules, procedures, and guidelines. In addition, the proposed revisions promote transparency and accountability.

• This policy is being revised to clarify the procedures regarding public participation at board meetings.
• Particular areas of revision include the following: removing tiered speaker structure to the agenda and non-agenda items; clarifying speakers are not allowed to sign up other speakers; allowing speakers to speak directly to Board members and; providing notice that the Board is required to adhere to FCC regulations.

Board Pollicy 0169.1 Public Participation at Board Meetings will appear before the School Board on the dates indicated below:

• Rule Development Workshop – 2/21/23 (public hearing)
• School Board Meeting Information – 2/21/23
• School Board Meeting Approval – 3/7/23
• Effective Date – upon approval
