Discussion

The District is proposing development and submission of several funding opportunities authorized under The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.   The purpose of these funds are to provide emergency relief grants to State educational agencies to assist with the impacts of COVID-19.  State educational agencies are required to provide sub-grant awards to local educational agencies to support needs aligned with re-opening K-12 schools.  The allocation for each fund, which must be proportionally shared with charter and non-public schools, is determined by the Florida Department of Education based on the FY19 Title I, Part A formula.

There are no matching requirements for the CARES Act programs.  Awarded funds under this program must be fully obligated by September 30, 2022, or earlier if so identified by the Florida Department of Education.  Upon submission, a full copy of each application will be available for review in the Financial Services Division.

Recommendation

Approve the development and submission of funding opportunities under The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act Elementary and Secondary Emergency Relief Fund Grant proposal.
