Gardendale Alternative Learning Center - Construction Management Services - SALES SURTAX
Consent w/o Information - 06/28/2022
The School Board approved the Guaranteed Maximum Price submitted by Wharton Smith, Inc. for the 2014 sales surtax facility renewal project at Gardendale Alternative Learning Center at the January 18, 2022 School Board meeting. The project is currently under construction.
Recently, the vendor for the District's two special day schools chose not to renew their contract with the District. Consequently, the District Team is preparing to bring these services in-house at Gardendale, where space is available. Because Wharton Smith, Inc. is on site, they will be able to expeditiously assist with any facility modifications needed to support the students and faculty that will be moving to Gardendale.
Consequently, School Board consideration of an owner-directed change order to the contract for facility renewal work at Gardendale is requested, based on a design prepared by TLC Engineering Solutions under their continuing contract for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering services. The scope of work includes program-specific modifications to classrooms, painting and repair of exterior stucco. The proposed owner-directed change order amount is not to exceed $198,258. Design costs are $28,500. Administration and permitting costs are estimated at $10,000. Furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF & E) will be purchased separately as needed through Student Services. The project is included in the proposed FY 23 capital program, but will be advance-funded through currently available capital.
Board approval is required for purchase orders over $50,000. The standard agreement template has been used which does not require legal review.
Approve the total project design and construction budget (excluding FF & E) in the amount of $236,758.
Approve the owner-directed change order submitted by Wharton, Smith, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $198,258 under their continuing contract for construction management services for the facility renovations required at Gardendale Alternative Learning Center to support the day school program.
