Titusville High School is requesting the naming of the Titusville High School Gymnasium to the Coach Laura Dixon Dawg House.

Coach Laura Dixon worked at Titusville High School from 1970 to 2003. She spent her career as a teacher, coach, and mentor. She served as girls’ volleyball coach for 25 years. Under Coach Dixon's leadership, the girls’ volleyball team won state championships in 1981 and 1983. She amassed eight district, five regional, and three sectional championships,winning four district titles and one regional title during her 16-year tenure as head softball coach at THS. Coach Dixon was the third woman to be inducted into the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1997 as well as four-time All-Space Coast and seven-time Cape Coast Conference Volleyball Coach of the Year. Coach Dixon was a strong voice during the implementation of Title IX in 1972. She worked diligently to ensure equity for all athletes.

Naming of the gymnasium was brought before stakeholders of Titusville High School with a desire to gather input from all stakeholders.  The first input was collected at the February 2nd faculty meeting providing all current teachers and staff an opportunity to give feedback. At the April 21, 2022 School Advisory Council meeting, feedback was gathered from 11 community members who unanimously agreed to move forward with the process after gathering input from the community at large. In addition to meetings, the district has received multiple letters from community members showing support for naming the Titusville High School gymnasium to honor Coach Laura Dixon. 

Approve naming of the Titusville High School gymnasium to the Coach Laura Dixon Dawg House in honor of her contributions to Titusville High School and the Titusville community.
