Discussion

The Florida Department of Education requested that BPS apply for the tenth year of this discretionary grant through the Florida Department of Education, Division of Public Schools, Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services (BEESS). The ACCESS Project focuses on evidence-based instructional strategies and supports that align with the Florida Standards Access Points. The ACCESS Project will continue to support statewide professional development for educators to ensure a greater understanding of Florida Standards Access Points, resources and supports as they apply to more effective instructional planning, the teaching and learning of academic content for students with significant cognitive disabilities. Understanding the critical need for identification and development of communication strategies for this population of students, the ACCESS Project will support training for communicative competent and positioning for learning. The discretionary project also supports alternative assessment activities, as needed, that align instruction with assessment. For FY21 BPS will continue as the program and fiscal agent for the Access Project. The budget and program performance period for this project is October 1, 2020 through September 30, 2021. The total funding amount is $700,000 for the year. There are not costs to the district associated with this grant. The district will receive the approved indirect costs to administer the grant. The ACCESS Project Grant application is available for review in the Student Services Program Support office.
