Discussion

There is a legal requirement for the District to advertise the 2020-21 Proposed Tentative Budget and the proposed millage levies in the local newspaper. The advertisement of the first public hearing will be in the Florida Today on Saturday, July 25, 2020 along with three ads:

Budget Summary Ad which shows the various revenue and expenditure budgets by fund.

Capital Outlay Ad which outlines the anticipated expenditures with regard to the ad valorem tax receipts.

Proposed Tax Increase OR Notice of Budgeting Hearing, depending on the millage rate determined by FLDOE and communicated in the 2nd FEFP Calculation.

Please be aware that the 2nd FEFP Calculation, which is required to produce all three ads is not currently available. It is anticipated that the document will be available by July 20, 2020.

The estimated cost associated with this item is the required newspaper advertisement fee. At this time, we believe that the District requirements are 2 one-quarter page, and 1 one-half page ads.

Recommendation

Authorize the Superintendent to advertise the 2020-21 Proposed Tentative Budget and millage rates along with the Capital Projects to be funded from the 1.5 mill proceeds, which will be presented at the public hearing to be held July 30, 2020 at the Educational Services Facility.
