Intercom renewal projects are planned District-wide as part of the 2020 sales surtax renewal program. The project at Johnson Middle School has been designed by TLC  Engineering Solutions under their continuing contract for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering services.

Wharton Smith, Inc. has submitted a Guaranteed Maximum Price in an amount not to exceed $323,904 for the intercom renewal project at Johnson Middle School under their continuing contract for construction management services. This project is combined with intercom renewal projects at other sites (Astronaut High School and Ocean Breeze Elementary School) to achieve economy of scale and reduce the construction management fee. Administration and permitting costs are estimated at $7,000.

This project is funded through 2020 sales surtax, remaining 2014 sales surtax funds budgeted for Johnson Middle School for facility renewal projects and the 2014 sales surtax revenue over the $198 million program target. The Independent Citizens Oversight Committee (ICOC)  recommended additional funding for intercom projects from the 2014 sales surtax at South ALC and Sabal Elementary at its June 15, 2022 meeting. Since grant funds are now available for these projects, the 2014 surtax funds over the $198 million program target can be reallocated to the Johnson Middle School intercom project.  The ICOC will be advised of the change at its August 2022 meeting. 

Board approval is required for purchase orders over $50,000. The standard form of the agreement has been used which does not require legal review. 

Approve the total project construction budget for the intercom renewal project at Johnson Middle School in the amount of $330,904.

Approve the Guaranteed Maximum Price submitted by Wharton Smith, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $323,904 for the intercom renewal project at Johnson Middle School under their continuing contract for construction management services.

Approve the allocation of up to $120,000 from the 2014 sales surtax program over the $198 million program target for the intercom project at Johnaon Middle School .
