The Brevard County Interlocal Agreement for Public School Facility Planning and School Concurrency, in accordance with Florida Statutes 163.3174, states that "Each Municipality and County shall include a representative of the school district appointed by the school board as a nonvoting member of the local planning agency... However, this subsection does not prevent the governing body of the local government from granting voting status to the school board member."  The local planning agencies (also known a planning and zoning boards) review larger scale development and land use proposals. The School Board representative is typically appointed to the same term length as the other local planning agency members. 

Mr. Hopengarten has represented the School Board on the Brevard County Local Planning Agency (LPA) since December 15, 2021 and is in good standing. The representative of the School Board on the Brevard County Local Planning Agency is a voting member.  Per County Ordinance, Section 62-182, the term of appointment shall be for two years beginning on January 1 of the year of appointment. 

Reappoint Mr. John Hopengarten as the School Board Representative to the Brevard County Local Planning Agency for a 2-year term commencing on January 1, 2023 and extending through January 1, 2025. The sponsoring School Board Member is Mr. Gene Trent, District 2.
