Merritt Island High School - Additional Construction Management Services HVAC

The School Board approved a construction management services contract with Heard Construction, Inc. at its March 22, 2022 meeting for the cafeteria renovation at Merritt Island High School based on a design by Architects RZK, Inc. under their continuing contract for architectural services. The project was funded through Food and Nutrition Services. Facilities Services requested an owner-directed change order to replace the failing air handling unit (HVAC equipment) serving the Cafeteria Manager's office. Heard Construction, Inc. submitted owner-directed change order #2 in the amount of $72,051.03. Change order #1 was for a time extension only and was administratively approved. The lead time on this equipment (delivered summer 2023) requires an additional time extension of 190 days. This project will be funded through capital budgeted for HVAC projects.
Board approval is required for change orders over $50,000 or 10% of the contract amount. The standard form of the change order was used which does not require legal review.
