January 14, 2020 - Regular School Board Meeting

The School Board of Brevard County, Florida met in regular session on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at the Educational Services Facility, 2700 Judge Fran Jamieson Way, Viera, Florida. Notice of the meeting was advertised in the Eagle newspaper on Thursday, January 2, 2020. The affidavit of publication with a copy of the ad attached is filed in the Affidavit File in the Board Office.

Dr. Mullins recognized and congratulated the administrative staff personnel present.  Each were offered time for brief comments and introductions.

Motion
Approve the listed administrative staff recommendations: The reclassification/transfer of Mary Elizabeth Myers from the position of Assistant Principal (10 month) at Columbia Elementary School to the position of Principal at Riviera Elementary School, on annual contract, effective January 15, 2020. Annual salary based on grade 26 of the Nonbargaining Salary Administration Program. The reclassification/transfer of Tonny Harris, Jr. from the position of Teacher at Heritage High School to the position of Interim Assistant Principal (10 month) at Palm Bay Magnet High School, on annual contract, effective January 15, 2020. Annual salary based on grade 24 of the Nonbargaining Salary Administration Program. The transfer of John L. Johnson from the position of Assistant Principal (12 month) at Cocoa High School to the position of Assistant Principal (12 month) at Bayside High School, on annual contract, effective January 20, 2020. Annual salary based on grade 24 of the Nonbargaining Salary Administration Program. The appointment of Latasha L. Bowens to the position of Principal at Madison Middle School, on annual contract, effective January 15, 2020. Annual salary based on grade 27 of the Nonbargaining Salary Administration Program.

Chairman Belford reminded speakers they would each have three minutes in which to make comments and of the decorum expected while speaking.

Speakers in order of Appearance:

Board members indicated they wish to discuss maternity leave in greater length.  

Ms. Belford explained that off-site work sessions will be published on the website as workshops and meetings have been as well as continue with current advertising procedures.

Ms. Belford asked to circle back to Mr. Chong's issue with students not being able to miss rehearsals at a later work session.
