February 9, 2021 School Board Meeting

Meeting attendance will be limited to 30 persons in addition to Board and staff in response the COVID-10 pandemic.  Persons wishing to make public comments will sign up in the ESF lobby beginning at 5:00 p.m. Should there be no available space inside the Board room, speakers will remain outside and be brought in to speak at the appropriate time.  Please be reminded that face coverings of the mouth and nose are required for all attendees.

The School Board of Brevard County met for its regular meeting on Tuesday, February 9, 2021.  Notice of the meeting was advertised in the Thursday, January 28, 2021 edition of The Eagle.  An affidavit of publication is available in the Board office.

Accept the resignation of Tanza J. Conneely from the position of Assistant Principal (12 month) at Johnson Middle School, effective January 29, 2021. Accept the position change of Sara M. Keller from the position of Interim Assistant Principal (10 month), board approved on September 24, 2019, to the position of Assistant Principal (10 month) at Turner Elementary School, effective on the issuance date of her certification of December 4, 2019. Accept the retirement of Kathy W. Jefferson from the position of Assistant Principal (10 month) at Roy Allen Elementary School, effective June 30, 2021. The reclassification/transfer of Stephanie M. Chairman Belford provided the Board and viewing audience an update of educational legislation being brought forward. At least three bills have a direct cost to districts. 

32. Discussion - COVID Choral Guidelines

Discussion ensued about choral groups singing indoors amidst COVID.  The current plan does not allow for indoor singing. Mr. Susin wanted to discuss this further at the next Board meeting.

INSTITUTION:  ARTICLE IX - SECTION 1.  Public education. - The education of children is a fundamental value of the people of the State of Florida. It is, therefore, a paramount duty of the state to make adequate provision for the education of all children residing within its borders. Adequate provision shall be made by law for a uniform, efficient, safe, secure, and high quality system of free public schools that allows students to obtain a high quality education and for the establishment, maintenance, and operation of institutions of higher learning and other public education programs that the needs of the people may require.

ADDRESSING THE BOARD:
Individuals or groups may address comments to the School Board at any regular meeting by following established procedures.  The maximum allotted time for a presentation is three (3) minutes.  A speaker's time may not be allocated to others.  Individuals must complete a form located on a table near the east wall of the boardroom.  Thirty minutes will be set aside at the beginning of the meeting for public discussion on non-agenda items.  Up to thirty minutes of public discussion will be allowed for each agenda action item.

NOTE:  If a person decides to appeal any decision made by the Board with regard to any matter considered at this meeting, he/she will need a record of the proceedings and, for such purposes, may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made and that the record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.
