The School Board of Brevard County, Florida met in a Board Workshop on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at the Educational Services Facility, 2700 Judge Fran Jamieson Way, Viera, Florida. Notice of the meeting was advertised in the Eagle newspaper on Thursday, February 6, 2020.  A correction to the topic was published in Florida Today on Tuesday, February 18, 2020. The affidavits of publication with a copies of the ads attached is filed in the Affidavit File in the Board Office.

Jane Cline, Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Leading and Learning, introduced Dr. Wendy Smith, Director of Head Start who began the presentation. She provided a timeline.

Chairman Belford  asked if the communityassessment update will be sent to Board members via courier or emailed.  Dr. Smith said she will send it both ways. 

5. Youth Truth Survey Results

Dr. Stephanie Soliven, Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Leading and Learning, began the presentation.  Youth Truth is a national nonprofit student survey which provides an expontial amount of data.  Eighty-two percent of eligible students in grades 3-12 participated. Dr. Soliven explained that there was so much more data available than what she was able to present during the workshop, that board members were invited to sit down with her and look at invidividual school results. 82 percent of eligible students in grades 3-12.  Board members were invited to sit down and look at individual school results.

Dr. Soliven said they need the student voice to drive change and it is Important to stay connected to how students receive information. Principals will receive training from Youth Truth on how to use the data on March 5 at Cocoa High School from 8 to 12.  Dr. Soliven publically thanked  Lena Wiebelt, director of Secondary Leading and Learning, for all of her efforts.
