CARES Act – Governor’s Emergency Educational Relief (GEER) Fund- K-12 Civic Literacy Booklist

The district has received notification of the award of a grant funded program authorized under The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The Governor’s Emergency Educational Relief (GEER) Fund in the amount of $110,939.76. The GEER Fund for K-12 Civic Literacy provides funds to promote district-wide content engagement and support student acquisition of civic knowledge. By purchasing approved books on the K-12 Civic Literacy Booklist Prioritization Chart and distributing to all elementary, middle, and high schools, Brevard Public Schools can increase the collective capacity of our students to become contributing members of society, while aligning learning opportunities to the new B.E.S.T. Standards. The allocation for each fund, which must be proportionally shared with charter and non-public schools, was determined by the Florida Department of Education based on the FY20 Title I, Part A formula.
There are no matching requirements for the CARES Act program. Awarded funds under the GEER Fund must be fully obligated by August 20, 2022, or earlier, if so identified by The Department of Education. A full copy of the application Toolkit will be available for review in the division of Leading and Learning.
