Discussion

The district has received notification of the award of a grant funded program authorized under The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund in the amount of $88,000. The ESSER Fund for Data Informed Supports provides funds for resources to use data to improve schools and student outcomes. Brevard Public Schools is generating an unprecedented amount of data through progress monitoring tools, student support services, school improvement, and innovative instructional models during this pandemic. Therefore, this funding is aimed at leveraging this data for making data-driven decisions during this extraordinary time by funding the position of our Data Scientist. The Data Scientist will collaborate with district and school-level leaders to identify and target professional learning needs, collaborate with the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) to prioritize state initiatives, and promote the analysis and use of data to improve student learning and outcomes. The allocation for each fund, which must be proportionally shared with charter and non-public schools through equitable services, was determined by the Florida Department of Education based on the FY20 Title I, Part A formula.

There are no matching requirements for the CARES Act program. Awarded funds under the ESSER Fund must be fully obligated by December 20, 2021, or earlier if so identified by The Department of Education. A full copy of the application Toolkit will be available for review in the division of Leading and Learning.
