The sales surtax facility renewal project at Palm Bay Magnet High School is scheduled for summer 2020. 

Canaveral Construction Co., Inc. (Canaveral) has submitted a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) in an amount not to exceed $1,664,694 under their continuing contract for construction management services. The design was prepared by DDC Engineering, Inc. under their continuing contract for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection (MEP) engineering services. Administration and permitting costs are estimated at $10,000.

The scope of the project is primarily controls, HVAC, electrical, potable water line replacement and student station power. Elevator renewal is not currently included in the contractor's scope of work but is also planned to be accomplished this summer. Funding will be allocated by sales surtax categories based on the allocation distribution in Exhibit B attached.

The ICOC has also approved an allocation for chiller renewal. This project will be deferred until summer 2021.  

The estimated supplemental sales surtax funding ($500,000) for this project was approved by the Independent Citizens Oversight Committee at their January 9, 2020 special meeting. 

Board approval is required for purchase orders over $50,000. The standard agreement template has been used, which does not require legal review.

 

Recommendation

Approve the total project construction budget in the amount of $1,674,964 for the facility renewal project at Palm Bay Magnet High School.

Approve the Guaranteed Maximum Price submitted by Canaveral in an amount not to exceed $1,664,964 under their continuing contract for construction management services for the facility renewal project at Palm Bay Magnet High School.

Approve the allocation of of up to $500,000 in sales surtax revenue over $198 million for the project.
