Over the course of six sessions, Brevard Public Schools and the Brevard Federation of Teachers negotiated and came to terms on a new contract for 2021-22.  The tentative agreement was ratified by teachers through a vote held December 6 - 10, 2021.  Agreement was reached on an updated Teacher Salary Increase Allocation, a one-time bonus of $2000 for all teachers and an additional one-time bonus of $1100 for those teachers currently receiving the longevity supplement.  Some of the language items included adding a compensation option for giving up one's planning period to cover a class, increasing flex time to an hour a week, increasing the amount of compensatory time a teacher can use each year, and including language within the Article for Teacher Protection covering cameras and drug testing.   Parental leave was increased to seven (7) days and an opportunity to visit the BPS well-care center without being charged sick time was included, as were several additions to the differentiated pay schedule.

Recommendation

Approve the Agreement between the School Board of Brevard County, FL (District) and the Brevard Federation of Teachers, Local 2098 (BFT) - 2021-2022.
