The Board met for a policy work session on Tuesday, December 14, 2021.  Notice of the meeting was advertised in the Thursday, November 11, 2021 and December 2, 2021 editions of The Eagle (Ad# 4966997 and Ad# 5014714).Affadavits of publication are available in the Board Office.

Dr. Beth Thedy, Deputy Superintendent and Chief Human Resources Officer, provided the executive summary for this policy. Ms. Campbell wanted to change the word "required" for students to "encouraged".  Board members were in agreement.

Ms. Campbell asked about the 30 day timeframe for an appeal. Ms. Londono said that she would have to get back with NEOLA to see why it landed on 30 days and if it needs to be that long. 

8. Board Policy 2266 - Non-Discrimination on the Basis of Sex

Ms. Londono provided the executive summary of the new policy.  

The policy will be consistent throughout allowing the superintendent to designate someone in his place.

Changes include:

  • Update Form D "Summary of Proposed Policy Revisions " by adding
    • Changes include the requirement of written clearance from a medical provider prior to participating in any athletic activities after a suspected head injury or concussion
    • Changes include the requirement that an employee or volunteer with current CPR and AED training be present at each athletic activity.

Ms. Moore presented the executive summary for this proposed new policy.

Mr. Susin would like the criteria to be published that is referred to in B (2) which stated the student meets the criteria in Policy 2431.01 Participation by Transfer Students. Mr. Susin also had a question on this portion of the policy: Students prohibited from participation in all or part of any extra-curricular activity are not entitled to further notice, hearing, or appeal rights. Is there a trigger for us to say that is not fair.  Ms. Moore said that Dr. Ramjit is working on an Athletic Directors' handbook.

Russ Bruhn, Chief Strategic Communications Officer, provided the executive summary for the revisions to this policy.

Ms. Campbell said that the way it is worded in E(1) and E(2) makes it seem like the parents are exempt from health examinations and immunizations, not the students. Ms. Moore said she would revise the language.

Ms. Campbell said they have been asked to revist the mask policy that was in place last year.    She would like to start the repeal process.  Mr. Susin was in favor.  Ms. Belford said that she had been in conversation with General Counsel Gibbs.  The Board will wait and  follow up with Mr. Gibbs.
