The Office of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) submitted an application for the 2021-22 Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) grant to the Florida Department of Agriculture for the following schools: Cambridge Elementary, Endeavour Elementary and Saturn Elementary. The application has already been submitted due to a very short submission deadline. FFVP grant funding is available for the period of July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022 for elementary schools. One of the criteria for receiving the grant is that eligible schools must have 53 percent or more students who are eligible for free and reduced-priced meals with the highest priority given to those schools. Funds will be used to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables to be served at no charge to students, while a small percentage of funds may be used for operation and administrative costs incurred for the preparation and distribution of the fruits and vegetables. Funding is estimated at $139,685 and does not require a cash match. The Board will be asked for consent to accept the grant once it has been awarded.
