The Independent Citizens Oversight Committee (ICOC) recommended (August 21, 2019) and the School Board approved (September 24, 2019) an allocation of $500,000 of sales surtax revenue over the $198 million program target and a reallocation of $1 million of educational technology sales surtax funds (savings from projects) for device refreshment.

In February, 2020, staff requested ICOC consideration of an additional $1.5 million allocation from sales surtax revenue over the $198 million program target for device refreshment. The ICOC approved this recommendation at their February 19, 2020 meeting.

The Educational Technology team is continuing to replace obsolete devices in order to better support students. This additional allocation will likely be needed in the near future as the pace of device replacement has increased as part of the pandemic response. 

Procurement will done be through previously approved technology contracts.

 

Recommendation

Approve the use of up to $1.5 million in sales surtax revenue over the $198 million program target for device refreshment.
