Merritt Island High School's Varsity Football Team is requesting approval to travel to Cairo, GA to participate in an athletic competition versus Cairo High School, and tour local colleges and the State Capitol in nearby Tallahassee, Florida on September 23-25, 2021. Students will miss one school day (September 24th). The group consists of approximately 45 male students, accompanied by five male employee/coaches and two registered male volunteer coaches. The group plans to leave from Merritt Island High School at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 23rd by charter bus rented from a board-approved vendor and return to Merritt Island High School at approximately 6:00 a.m.on Saturday, September 25th. Students will miss one school day (Sept. 24th). Accommodations will be at the Courtyard Marriott Tallahassee Downtown, 1018 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, FL 32301. While visiting the area, students will have opportunity to tour the State Capitol, FSU and FAMU universities depending on and adhering to all COVID protocols. Merritt Island High School will cover transportation costs from gate receipts split with Cairo High School. Lodging, meals and all other expenses will be the responsibility of the Merritt Island Quarter Back Club. THERE IS NO COST TO THE DISTRICT. A tentative itinerary is attached. 

Recommendation

Approve the request of Merritt Island High School's Varsity Football Team, approximately 45 male students accompanied by five male employee/coaches and two registered male volunteer coaches, to travel to Cairo, GA to participate in an athletic competition versus Cairo High School, tour local colleges and the State Capitol in the Tallahassee, FL area on September 23-25, 2021.
