The School Board approved a sales surtax project at Edgewood Jr./Sr. High School to correct longstanding roof and site drainage issues at their March 10, 2020 meeting.

Canaveral Construction Co., Inc. previously submitted a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) in an amount not to exceed $304,838.42 under their continuing contract for construction management services. The design was prepared by Allen Engineering, Inc. under their continuing contract for civil engineering services.

The District’s Grounds Services Department recently removed a large oak tree in the bus loop that had caused significant damage to the drive aisle and parking areas. The tree removal allows for better bus loop turning capacity and provides the opportunity to develop another 2 parking spaces. In order to fully improve the bus loop, an initial owner-directed change order was approved for $16,968.94 to remove tree roots, remove and repair damaged bus loop asphalt, and install new asphalt in the repaired areas along with an additional 2 parking spaces where the tree was previously located. The final phase proposed for this project is an entire bus loop renewal which includes sealing, coating and re-striping the new asphalt, the entire bus loop and associated parking spaces. Canaveral Construction, Inc. has submitted an owner-directed change order in the amount of $19,165.96 to complete the final proposed phase. Administration and permitting costs were previously budgeted.

Both change orders will be funded through capital since this is outside the scope of the sales surtax-funded drainage project.

Board approval is required for purchase orders over $50,000 or change orders totaling more than 10% of the original contract. The standard agreement template has been used, which does not require legal review. Change Order #2 brings the total owner-directed change orders over the 10% threshold.
