The School Board awarded a design build contract to Wharton Smith, Inc. in October 2016 for District School Security following a competitive selection process. (RFP #17-P-029-DR). The contract was extended through December 31, 2021 to complete the projects that are currently in progress, including Cluster C. Since the work under RFP #17-P-029-DR is nearing completion, additional security work will be done through the District's continuing contracts. 

The Board approved the Phase 1 Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for Cluster C in an amount not to exceed $1,437,303 at their December 17, 2019 meeting and approved th Phase 2 GMP for Cluster C in an amount not to exceed $755,500 at their July 20, 2020 meeting. The project has been funded with state grants and capital. The District-Wide Security Assessment, completed in April 2021, recommended additional investment in the Cluster C security program. This work was budgeted in year 1 of the sales surtax renewal program.  

Wharton Smith, Inc. has submitted a Guaranteed Maximum Price for Phase 3 of the Cluster C project in an amount not to exceed $986,519 under their continuing contract for design build services. The equipment will be purchased separately directly by the District (estimated at $1.3 million). The project will be funded with previously budgeted state grants and sales surtax renewal funds. 

Board approval is required for purchase orders over $50,000.
