The sales surtax facility renewal project at Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School constructed last year included chiller replacement, chilled water piping, parking lot lighting, HVAC, controls, electrical. and student station power/data. The team subsequently recommended replacement of a second chiller and other central energy plant equipment. The Independent Citizens Oversight Committee approved the allocation of additional 2014 sales surtax resources ($600,000) at their February 17, 2021 meeting for the additional work on the central energy plant. This allocation was subsequently approved by the School Board on March 9, 2021. 

Canaveral Construction Co., Inc. has submitted a preconstruction services proposal in an amount not to exceed $275,413.32 under their continuing contract for construction management services. The proposal is based on a design prepared by DDC Engineering, Inc. under their continuing contract for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering services. Administration and permitting costs are estimated at $15,000.

Preconstruction services include design, subcontractor bidding, development of the Guaranteed Maximum Price and the early works procurement of the chiller, cooling tower and variable frequency drives due to lengthy lead times on mechanical equipment.  

Board approval is required for purchase orders over $50,000. The standard form of the agreement has been used which does not require legal review.
