With Prior Information
The district has received notification of the award of a grant funded program authorized under The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund in the amount of $511,873.63. The ESSER Fund for B.E.S.T. High-Quality Curriculum provides funds to promote K-3 reading achievement among elementary schools with the greatest achievement gaps, with a focus on students with identified reading deficiencies receiving Tier 2 or Tier 3 instructional supports. The district reviewed multiple data points to determine areas of focus for K-3 ELA interventions. Instructional materials and programs were selected based on the evidence of impact in closing skill deficits with urgency. By implementing the selected evidence-based, high-quality curriculum for reading, Brevard Public Schools can increase reading achievement among elementary learners with the greatest need, while aligning learning opportunities to the new B.E.S.T. ELA Standards. Additionally, funds shall be used to directly support the priorities of the program by including ongoing professional development and implementation support for the selected high-quality reading curriculum. The allocation for each fund, which must be proportionally shared with charter and non-public schools through equitable services, was determined by the Florida Department of Education based on the FY20 Title I, Part A formula.
There are no matching requirements for the CARES Act program. Awarded funds under the ESSER Fund must be fully obligated by September 20, 2022 or earlier if so identified by The Department of Education. A full copy of the application and award will be available for review in the division of Leading and Learning.A board agenda to Write and Submit for all CARES Act related Grants was submitted and approved on 6/30/2020.
