Space Coast Jr/Sr High School's STEAM Academy and Palm Bay Magnet High School's Engineering team, four students accompanied by three BPS employees (one female/two male), are requesting approval to travel to Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas to present at the Critical Design Review (CDR) on April 13-15, 2022. The students attending have been selected as finalists of all high school students with NASA to create HUNCH projects in the country. Students will present their design prototypes to NASA engineers and astronauts at the Critical Design Review for possible selection and use.

Individuals will depart from their school on Wednesday, April 13th by private vehicle to Orlando International Airport. The group will fly together via commercial airline to Houston, Texas present at Johnson Space Center on April 14th, then return on Friday, April 15th. Students will miss two school days (April 13th and 14th).  April 15th is a student holiday. Lodging will be at the Spring Hill Suites and local ground transportation will be provided by AVIS Rental Cars. Cost per participant is $408.09 which includes transportation, lodging and meals. Funding is provided by Cape Funds through CTE. Students are responsible for meal costs. THERE IS NO COST TO THE DISTRICT. A tentative itinerary is attached.

Recommendation

Approve the request of Space Coast Jr/Sr High School's STEAM Academy and Palm Bay Magnet High School's Engineering Team, four students accompanied by three BPS employees (one female/two male), to travel to Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas and present at the Critical Design Review (CDR) on April 13-15, 2022.
