Space Coast Jr/Sr High School's STEAM Academy, two male students accompanied by one male BPS employee, is requesting approval to travel to Houston, Texas to present at the Critical Design Review (CDR) at Johnson Space Center on April 18-20, 2023. On Tuesday April 18th, students will be transported to Orlando International Airport by their parents then fly with the group to Houston, Texas returning on Thursday, April 20th. Ground transportation will be covered by Avis or Budget rental car services. Lodging will be at the TownPlace Suites by Marriott, 1050 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, TX 77058. Cost per participant is $515.96 covered by CAPE funds. Students are responsible for approximately $75.00 to cover meals. THERE IS NO COST TO THE DISTRICT.

The students attending this event have been selected as finalists of all high school students with NASA to create HUNCH projects in the country. Students will present their design prototypes to NASA engineers and astronauts at the Critical Design Review for possible selection and use. A tentative itinerary is attached. 

Recommendation

Approve the request for Space Coast Jr/Sr High School's STEAM academy, two male students accompanied by one male BPS employee, to travel to Houston, Texas to participate in the Critical Design Review (CDR) at Johnson Space Center on April 18-20, 2023.
